On Saturday, Sept. 15, I was honored to participate in a Skate-a-thon for Quinn's Legacy at the Ashuwillticook Trail. This foundation is in honor of Quinn Connally who tragically died on the ice in Springfield last year. His parents, Steve and Ann, have selflessly started this foundation to build a much needed ice rink in Pittsfield in honor of their son.

I was proud of and amazed at the young people who showed up during this tragic week to raise money for Quinn's Legacy. Skaters came from as far away as Connecticut to show their support. These incredible young people with blisters on their feet continued to skate up to 40-plus miles; some had hockey and soccer games that evening.

A big disappointment to myself and others was the lack of media attention to this wonderful event. In these trying times, let us not forget our youth, some of whom are skating at 10 or 11 p.m. to get practice time on the ice. As a community, let's all get behind Steve and Ann Connally to build this rink for all our youth.
