I am writing to you on behalf of the New England Eye and Tissue Transplant Bank to express our deepest sympathy on the loss of your son, Quinn. His death is such a tragedy, but I do hope the option of donation has offered you some comfort.

With your permission we were able to recover corneas from your loved one. I hope that it will bring some comfort to you in knowing that both corneas have been transplanted and are helping to restore the sight of two very grateful people. One recipient is thirty-eight years of age: the other recipient is twenty-three years of age; both recipients are men.

I would like you to know that I admire your ability to express your love for your son by allowing his death to improve the quality of life of people you have never met. I can assure that the patients and families who benefit from your generosity will never forget this unselfish gift.

I know that words cannot help the pain that you and your family are going through, but I do hope that as time passes you take some comfort in knowing that your gift has helped others. Please except our sincere sympathy and our deep appreciation.

Our thought and support remain with you.
